Every payment produces a receipt

When a payment settles, a receipt is written with its own reference, the amount and who it was issued to. It stays on the tenancy record.

That is the evidence you need if you are asked whether you paid, and the trail a dispute needs.

Part payments each keep a row

A charge settled in two payments produces two receipts, not one adjusted figure. The remaining balance is what the charge says it is, and it can always be explained by the payments behind it.

Payments post once

Each payment posts to the accounts keyed on the payment itself, not on the attempt that produced it. A retried job or a repeated submission cannot post the same rent twice.

Corrections do not overwrite

Posted accounting entries cannot be edited. A mistake is corrected by reversing the entry and posting a new one, so the original, the reversal and the correction all survive.

The amount lines of a posting are append-only, enforced by a database trigger rather than by convention.
