Renting from abroad: what works today
An honest inventory for Ghanaians overseas — the parts of the platform that carry a remote let, and the parts that do not yet.
Why distance is the risk
Rental fraud in Ghana concentrates on people who cannot walk round the corner and knock on the door. Everything below is about closing that gap, and about being clear where it is not yet closed.
What you can do now
These are live and backed by real records.
- Search only verified properties — nothing below bronze is publicly listed at all.
- Read the evidence panel on a listing, check by check, and see when each check was done and when it lapses.
- Filter to diaspora-friendly listings and to a verification tier you are comfortable with.
- Message the landlord directly, with a record of what was said.
- See prices converted into USD, GBP or EUR while you decide.
- Sign a tenancy agreement on the platform once you have one.
What is not there yet
Naming these matters more than the list above, because these are the ones that will catch you out.
- No online card or mobile-money payment. Payment is recorded, not collected.
- No viewing scheduler. Viewings are arranged in messages.
- No text-message alerts. Watch your email and the dashboard.
- No verification of what diaspora-friendly means on a given listing — it is the lister's own statement.
The one rule worth carrying
Do not send money before someone you trust has stood inside the property. A gold badge means an officer saw the building on a stated date. It is not a substitute for your own eyes, or your cousin's.
