Roles you can choose at signup
Self-service signup grants five roles. Staff and administrator roles are assigned by an administrator, and the database enforces it.
What you can pick
Signup offers tenant, landlord, property owner, property manager and contractor. Choosing one creates your profile and the role-specific record that goes with it.
What you cannot pick
Verification officer, support officer, finance administrator, administrator and super administrator are staff roles. They are assigned by an existing administrator and can never be requested at the door.
This is clamped in the database, in the trigger that creates the profile, not only in the signup form. A control that lives only in the caller is not a control, because the caller is the untrusted part.
What happens to an unrecognised role
A signup asking for a role that is not on the self-service list becomes a tenant. It is not rejected with an explanation, because a signup form should not tell someone probing it which role names exist.
If you picked the wrong role, ask support to change it rather than creating a second account. Two accounts split your history.
Changing role later
Role changes are made by staff and are recorded. Your existing tenancies, payments and verification evidence stay attached to the same account.
