Ghana VAT & withholding

Ghanaian indirect tax is not a percentage applied at the end. Levies are calculated on the net, VAT on net-plus-levies, and withholding applies to qualifying supplier invoices. Domicium applies this where the transaction happens rather than as a year-end adjustment, so what you invoiced and what you owe agree.

What it does

Correct levy stacking

Levies compute on the net amount and VAT computes on net plus levies, which is what produces the compounded effective rate rather than a flat one.

Applied at billing

Lease billing and supplier invoices carry their tax at the point they are raised, so the tax position is current rather than reconstructed.

Withholding on vendor invoices

Qualifying supplier invoices carry withholding, and the withheld amount is tracked as a liability until remitted.

Configurable, with effective dates

Rates are configuration with dates attached, not constants in components, so a rate change is a data change and historical documents keep the rate they were raised under.

Remittance tracking

Amounts collected and withheld are held against remittance records rather than being netted into general income.

How it works

The sequence an operator actually follows, not a feature list rearranged into steps.

  1. 1

Tax settings are configured per company, with effective dates.

  2. 2

A lease charge or supplier invoice is raised; the applicable levies, VAT and withholding are computed and carried on it.

  3. 3

The tax lines post to the ledger alongside the transaction, not separately.

  4. 4

Remittances draw on the tracked balances.

Enforced, not promised

What the database guarantees

These hold whether or not the interface remembers to check.

  • Tax logic is central and dated, never hardcoded per component.
  • Historical documents retain the rate in force when they were raised.
Worth knowing

What it does not do yet

You will ask this in an evaluation, so here it is without being asked.

  • No direct filing integration with the GRA. Remittance is tracked, not submitted.
  • Tax configuration should be reviewed against current GRA guidance before you rely on it — rates and rules change, and the platform applies what it is configured with.

These share the same database, so nothing is re-keyed between them.
